Sandra Jones Campbell

"My
paintings continue to evolve, maturing. Inspiration comes more from
memory; pushing ideas into gesture, brush strokes into emotion,
color on color with a sense of texture, and angles of light.
I continue to enjoy my narrations on social sightings in themes
of proverbs, cliches metaphores and moods, reflecting the conundrum
of my state of mind."
The following from an interview in the Los Angeles Times, July 27,
1999.
Multiple figures populate lively acrylic-on-canvas or acrylic-on-paper
images that
blend Sandra's optimism and candor, along with the artist's keen
visual skill: balancing color, form, composition, humor, and subject
matter.
The artist describes her paintings as composites of social sightings
portraying evocative associations from a voyeuristic perspective,
often at moments of personal social apprehensions or sociological
attitudes. Her visual narratives achieve effects that are simultaneously
playful and sophisticated. Sandra's provocative paintings have been
shown in over thirty-five one and two person shows, and at museum
exhibitions in California, Oregon, Massachusetts and Arizona.
Art works by Sandra Jones Campbell are included in several permanent
collections both national and around the world.
A native of eastern Oregon, fifteen years ago Sandra settled in
the lovely seaside art colony of Laguna Beach.
